Remove Background

Remove Background uses an AI segmentation model (ONNX Runtime) to detect and remove the background from any image, leaving only the subject on a transparent canvas. The entire AI model runs in your browser — your photos are never sent to a cloud service. Supports people, products, pets, and objects. Remove Background sits in FilePilot's ai image tools collection, so it is easy to move between this task and nearby tools such as AI Image Tools, Free Online PDF Tools, Free Online Image Tools. It is useful when you need to create product photos with clean white or transparent backgrounds; remove backgrounds from headshots for linkedin or company profiles; prepare cutout images for graphic design or presentations; clean up pet or object photos for e-commerce listings. The workflow is straightforward: upload the image (photo, product shot, portrait, etc.); the ai model processes the image locally and generates a transparent background; download the result as a png with transparency. The work happens locally in your browser using client-side processing, which keeps your files on your device and gives crawlers a clear plain-text description of what this page does before the interactive app loads.

How it works

  1. Upload the image (photo, product shot, portrait, etc.).
  2. The AI model processes the image locally and generates a transparent background.
  3. Download the result as a PNG with transparency.

Frequently asked questions

  • How accurate is the AI background removal?

The AI model uses a neural network trained on millions of images to detect foreground subjects with high accuracy. It works well with portraits, products, pets, and distinct objects, though results may vary with complex edges, transparent objects, or similar foreground and background colours.

  • What image types are supported?

FilePilot supports JPEG, PNG, and WebP images for background removal. The AI model is downloaded to your browser on first use (approximately 40 MB) and processes images locally.

  • Can I get a transparent PNG output?

Yes, the default output format is PNG with a transparent background. You can also export as WebP with transparency or JPEG with a solid background colour of your choice.

  • Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using a local AI model. Your images are never uploaded to any server, ensuring complete privacy.
